ayurveda "the science of life"

The Science of Life, was developed thousands of years ago through the insight of Indian seers. In deep states of meditation, yogis studied the natural world and the human body and recognized an innate tendency towards a state of balance between the forces at play, the five great elements:

Earth as the principle of solidity and stability.
Water as the principle of fluidity.
Fire as the principle of transformation.
Air as the principle of movement.
Space as the principle of connection.

By observing the play of the elements in the body, they identified basic patterns of energy transformation represented by the three doshas:

Vata
air and space
Pitta
fire and water
Kapha
water and earth

The doshas each have specific functions in the human body, both physical and mental-emotional. Their organization is unique in everyone, creating an individual’s constitution. Learning to recognize, understand and respect one’s constitution is fundamental for well-being.

Based on this foundation, Ayurveda evolved as a healing system focused on enhancing inner balance and wholeness.  It employs various diagnostic methods, such as conversation, examination, pulse, and tongue diagnosis, and therapeutic measures like diet, lifestyle, herbology, massage and rejuvenation therapies.

Ayurveda offers us a way to support our innate tendency towards balance and health.
